American River Trail Reopens After Major Cleanup
Placer County has announced the completion of the American River Debris Removal Project, marking an important milestone for both environmental restoration and outdoor access in the region. The multi-year effort removed hundreds of tons of steel and concrete left behind from the former Highway 49 bridge, significantly improving river safety and habitat health.
With the project now complete, the Calcutta Falls Trailhead along Highway 49 has officially reopened, restoring access to a popular recreation area near the American River and No Hands Bridge.
County leaders and local advocates celebrated the achievement as a win for the community, the environment, and all who enjoy Auburn’s treasured canyon trails.
