Local News & Local Business Highlights

A James Beard Moment for Auburn

A major culinary milestone for our region! Chefs Eric Alexander and Courtney McDonald of Restaurant Josephine have been named 2026 James Beard Award semifinalists for Best Chef: California, placing Auburn on the national culinary map.

Beloved for their elegant, seasonal French bistro fare with subtle Eastern European influences and a deep commitment to local farms and producers, the duo continues to earn well-deserved acclaim.

James Beard is one of the highest honors in the culinary world. Finalists will be announced March 31, with winners revealed June 15 in Chicago.

Coming to Downtown Lincoln: Rockstar Pizza

Rockstar Pizza Lincoln is officially opening its doors in the historic Beermann’s building, marking the next chapter in this well-known downtown landmark.

The wood-fired kitchen will celebrate with a three-day grand opening Friday–Sunday (4–9 PM), featuring pizzas alongside appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and desserts. Reservations are required. Located at 645 Fifth Street, the opening adds fresh energy and flavor to Lincoln’s growing food and arts scene.

Protecting Open Space in Placer County

The Placer County Conservation Program has conserved 235 acres north of Roseville, safeguarding prime ranchlands, wildlife habitat, and streams from future development.

The newly protected property includes portions of Pleasant Grove Creek, vernal pools, and seasonal wetlands that support rare species, while remaining active working rangeland through managed cattle grazing. The land connects to 1,400 acres of existing conserved open space, reinforcing a long-term vision that balances regional growth with conservation for generations to come.
