This week South Placer turns it up: a chart-topping band at the amphitheater, a comedy heavyweight at the casino, an Auburn pie counter that just beat the whole country, and enough live music to fill every night on the calendar.

Rock royalty is coming to Rocklin. Three Dog Night, the band behind a wall of 1970s hits, plays the Quarry Park Amphitheatre on Saturday, July 25. Doors at 6:00 PM, show at 7:00 PM. It is a rare night of pure classic rock in our own backyard, and the amphitheater is the perfect place to catch it under the summer sky.

Comedy fans, this one sells out. Bill Burr brings his live stand-up to Thunder Valley on Saturday, July 25 at 8:00 PM. And the night before, the Goo Goo Dolls with Neon Trees play the same stage (Friday, July 24, 7:30 PM), so Lincoln has two big nights back to back.

Ikeda's just won best pie shop in America. The Auburn institution off I-80 took the top spot in USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards, beating every pie counter in the country. Sam and Sally Ikeda started it as a roadside fruit stand after their family was sent to a WWII internment camp; three generations later it is more than 20 varieties deep, from marionberry to Dutch apple, much of it grown in their own orchards. Bosch's $2 billion Roseville bet just got bigger. The company announced a $225 million direct funding agreement with the U.S. Department of Commerce, part of its $2 billion investment in the Roseville chip plant. Robot servers are coming to Roseville. Chubby Cattle, an all-you-can-eat chain built around Wagyu BBQ, shabu shabu, and hotpot, is opening a Roseville location. Their restaurants run robot servers, food conveyor belts, and 5D projection dining rooms, with tiers ranging up to Japanese A5 Wagyu. No opening date yet. Worth watching. More Info →
